At long last, the logistics for the annual Local 2068/FRD section of the City of Fairfax 4th of July Parade are set and YOU are an integral part of that plan! As always, the FRD Honor Guard and the Northern Virginia Firefighters' Emerald Society Pipe Band will lead our brothers and sisters marching in Class A & the 142nd Recruit Class. DK's engine, the truck/trailer, Engine 410, Truck 410, the Seagrave & Engine 407 will follow. Also included are special appearances by FlashMax, Sparky and Fairfax County MDA Ambassador Joshua Jurack. As previously mentioned, family will not be able to ride outside the cab of FRD units, but Dennis Donehoo is bringing his Route 1 Rocket clone and Matthew Burns has arranged for a truck and trailer, both with "first come, first served" places to ride in and on With this being our 20th year at this level of involvement and given that we NEVER disappoint, parade organizers have moved us up to Division 3! The highest level that we have ever participated! The plan is to meet in front of the OHC at 0830 on July 4. This will allow plenty of time to get in before streets start being shut down and access becomes difficult. The parade officially starts at 1000 and we will step off soon thereafter. Members are reminded to wear full Class A and look sharp! This is our opportunity to march together and shine as one of the most popular and anticipated parts of the parade! Family members wishing to watch the parade are reminded to scout out their spots along the route early. Across University Drive from Fire Station 3 is a particularly great spot. After the parade is over, everyone is invited for food, drinks, pipes & drums and brotherhood downstairs at Auld Shebeen (3971 Chain Bridge Road at the intersection with North Street) courtesy of Local 2068. As an extra bonus, Local 2068 is putting up a $100 Visa gift card to the station & shift with the most people marching in Class A.
